Inauguration Ceremony cum Forum of the Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop
17 October 2007
The Hong Kong Economic Journal Co., Ltd. (HKEJ) has made a donation of HK$1 million to HKBU in support of the Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop (PPWW). HKEJ's generous support recognises the University's effort to advance journalistic education.
The first of its kind in Asia, the Workshop is organised by the Department of Journalism with the aim of broadening the vision of journalists and media professionals in Hong Kong and the greater China region. The Workshop, it is hoped, will encourage them to aspire to the highest standards of journalism.
Through the support made possible by HKEJ's donation, each year the Workshop will invite four to six Pulitzer Prize Winners to HKBU for a two-week academic exchange on campus.
This year, six Pulitzer Prize winners were invited to HKBU for a series of thought-provoking activities, including lectures, seminars and meetings with students, media professionals and the public.
On 17 October the PPWW Inauguration Ceremony cum Forum, entitled "The Impact of Technologies and Globalisation on News Reporting and the News Industry", officially opened the Workshop. Presiding at the Ceremony were The Honorable Wong Yan Lung, SC, JP, Secretary for Justice, HKSAR; Mr. James B Cunningham, US Consul General in Hong Kong and Macau; Mr. Cho Chi-ming, Executive Director, HKEJ; Mr. Wilfred Y W Wong, SBS, JP, Council and Court Chairman; and Professor Ng Ching-Fai, GBS, President and Vice-Chancellor. The Ceremony was well attended by 300 guests.
At the Forum, the six Pulitzer-winners shared their views, experiences and insights on the rapidly changing media world. Among the guests were representatives of various Consulates-General, international advisors and members of the PPWW, academics, media professionals, representatives of the HKEJ as well as supporters, staff and students of HKBU.
