 19 March 2008

To celebrate Hong Kong Baptist University¡¦s 52nd Anniversary, a Founders¡¦ Day Reception was held on 19 March at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.  Officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Michael Suen, Secretary for Education; Dr. David Li, Chairman and Chief Executive of The Bank of East Asia Limited; Mr. Wilfred Wong, Chairman of the Council and the Court; and Professor Ng Ching-Fai, President and Vice-Chancellor.

In his address, President C F Ng announced the important development that the University will establish three new research institutes: the Research Institute on Contemporary China Studies, the Institute for Computational Mathematics and the Sino-Forest Applied Research Centre on Pearl River Delta Environment. He noted that these enterprises will strengthen our interdisciplinary research capability and encourage research endeavours overall.

During the ceremony, Mr. Wilfred Wong and President Ng presented souvenirs to 20 donors whose ardent support deserves recognition because it makes possible the University¡¦s continued progress.  Since January of this year these donors generously contributed HK$1 million or more to this Institution.

The well-attended Reception attracted more than 300 guests, including government officials, consuls-general, donors, alumni, supporters and friends of HKBU, and staff.
